Generating a brief

  1. Go to Content Briefs

Open a client, then click Content Briefs in the left sidebar.

  2. Click "+ New brief"

    The brief creation dialog opens.

  3. Enter the target keyword

Type the keyword you want to rank for — e.g. "local SEO for dentists". Be specific: the AI analyzes the actual SERP for this exact phrase.

  4. Configure options (optional)

You can optionally set a target word count, preferred tone (neutral, conversational, authoritative), and add competitor URLs you want the brief to take into account. These settings refine the output but are not required.

  5. Click "Generate"

Rankrop fetches the top 10 SERP results for the keyword, analyzes their structure and topics, then uses Claude (Anthropic's AI) to produce a structured brief. This takes 20–45 seconds.

What's inside a brief

A generated brief includes:

  • Overview — Keyword, estimated search volume, target word count, and recommended tone.
  • Competitor analysis — What the top-ranking pages cover, their average length, and common heading structures.
  • Suggested outline — An H1 / H2 / H3 heading structure you can hand directly to a writer.
  • Topics to cover — Key subtopics and questions from related searches and "People Also Ask" results that the article should address.
  • SEO recommendations — Internal linking suggestions, primary keyword placement, and LSI keyword ideas.
The best keywords to brief

Target keywords where the site is currently ranking 11–30 — on page 2 or the bottom of page 1. A well-structured article can often push these to the top 5 without a link-building campaign. Completely unranked keywords often need links first.

Editing a brief

Every section of the brief is editable directly in Rankrop. Click any heading, paragraph, or list item to make changes. You can reorder sections, delete sections you don't want, and add your own notes. Changes are auto-saved.

Sharing with your writer

There are two ways to share a brief:

  • Share link — Click the Share icon in the brief toolbar to generate a public read-only link. Anyone with the link can view the brief without logging in. Links stay active until you revoke them.
  • Export as PDF — Click Export → PDF to download a formatted PDF version of the brief. The PDF includes your agency branding if you've set up a custom logo in Settings.

Tracking brief status

Once a writer has the brief, you can update its status in the Content Briefs list:

  • Draft — Brief generated, not yet assigned
  • In Progress — Writer is working on the content
  • Review — Content is written and being reviewed
  • Published — Content is live

If you've set up the Client Portal, your client can also see briefs in "Review" status and add approval or revision comments directly in the portal.

AI usage is included in your plan

Brief generation uses Rankrop's shared Anthropic quota. There's no per-brief charge — it's included in your plan. High-volume plans have higher monthly generation limits. See your plan details in Billing.
