Adding keywords

  1. Open a client and go to Keywords

From the client overview, click Keywords in the left sidebar. If no keywords have been added, you'll see an empty state.

  2. Click "+ Add keywords"

A panel slides in where you can enter keywords. You can add them one per line, or paste a bulk list.

  3. Paste your keyword list

Enter one keyword per line. You can add up to 500 in a single batch. Rankrop accepts phrases of any length — "best seo agency chicago" is valid.

  4. Set tracking options (optional)

You can optionally set a target URL (the page you want to rank for that keyword) and a target position (e.g. 1, 3, or 10). These are used for goal tracking and alert thresholds — not required to start tracking.

  5. Click "Start tracking"

The keywords are added and Rankrop queues them for the next daily rank check. The first check happens within a few hours; after that, positions update every 24 hours.

Tip — Start focused

Start with 20–50 keywords that already have some volume and are directly tied to your client's revenue. You can always add more later. Tracking everything dilutes the signal.

Understanding your rank data

The Keywords table shows the current position and the change from the previous day and previous 7 days for each keyword. Color coding helps you spot movement at a glance:

  • Green — Ranking improved (moved up)
  • Red — Ranking dropped (moved down)
  • Gray — No change or not enough data yet
  • — Keyword not ranking in the top 100

Rank history chart

Click any keyword to open a detail view with a rank history chart. This shows daily position going back to when the keyword was first added. Hover over any point to see the exact date and position. You can zoom in on specific date ranges using the chart controls.

SERP snapshot

In the keyword detail view, you'll also see a SERP snapshot showing the actual search result for that keyword at the time of the last check — including title, URL, and the snippet Google showed. This helps you verify the tracked URL is ranking (not a competitor's page with a similar brand mention).

Setting up rank change alerts

Rankrop can notify you when a keyword's position changes significantly. To set up alerts:

  1. Go to a client's Settings → Alerts
  2. Click + New alert rule
  3. Choose the trigger: rank drop by X positions, rank improvement by X positions, entered top 10, or dropped out of top 10
  4. Choose who gets notified (email addresses)
  5. Click Save rule

Alerts fire once per day during the overnight rank check. You won't get multiple notifications for the same keyword on the same day.

Removing keywords

Select one or more keywords using the checkboxes on the left, then click Delete selected from the action menu that appears. Deleted keywords also remove their rank history — this is permanent. If you only want to pause tracking temporarily without losing history, contact support.

Note — Rank checks happen once per day

Rankrop runs one rank check per keyword per day, overnight. You won't see intraday fluctuations — daily snapshots are the standard for rank tracking and are what search engines themselves report.
